2026-10-04 — Rented infrastructure, controlled relaxed capacity and suite distribution#

Takeaway and compute#

Leonardo demonstrates that rented infrastructure can coexist with recurring free access and paid unlimited relaxed generation. Its disclosed distinction is between capacity it controls and external APIs it cannot throttle—not simply owned versus rented GPUs.

AWS customer account, 2025-04-30: Leonardo used EC2 P4d for training/inference, then G6e/G5 for product features, and Inferentia2 for several LLM workloads. The reported 60% cost reduction and up-to-35% speed improvement apply to that LLM migration, not every image-generation job. AWS accelerator credits and mentorship also supported its earlier scaling. This establishes historical cloud procurement, not a complete current fleet or proof it owns no hardware. AWS account.

Current serving boundary: Leonardo's pricing FAQ describes lower-priority, lower-concurrency relaxed generation on selected internally hosted models. It excludes externally served models because it cannot observe/control their capacity or queue them off-peak. Owning the model weights, operating inference and owning the GPUs are separate claims. Acquisition, repeated use and monetization#

The advertised free allowance is 150 tokens/day. Monthly individual prices shown are Essential $12, Premium $30 and Ultimate $60, excluding tax. Premium offers selected relaxed image generation; Ultimate adds selected relaxed video generation. Private work, personal-model training, token rollover and higher concurrency provide paid retention benefits. Team and usage-based API products address business expansion; an API balance is not the consumer token allowance. Eligible-model lists differ between sections, so verify an exact workload rather than treat “unlimited” as universal. Current pricing.

Distribution: Canva's acquisition announcement describes financial/research backing and integration into its design products while preserving Leonardo's own product. More recently, the September 16, 2026 ProSuite announcement connects Leonardo with Affinity, Cavalry, Flourish and Canva in an end-to-end professional workflow. This is a documented cross-product distribution surface, not proven incremental paid conversion. Acquisition announcement, ProSuite launch.

Reported outcomes and implication#

AWS's April 2025 case reports more than 15 million users, not paid subscribers, MAU or revenue. Canva's older acquisition page uses a different, larger audience number; those figures are not a consistent growth time series. No October 2026 ARR or free-to-paid cohort was established.

Inference for ComfyICU: capacity control enables priority segmentation even with a rental supplier. Our owned fleet can support that mechanism, but reliable execution, model/workflow value and distribution remain necessary. Do not copy Leonardo's relaxed video offering onto our short-job gap-fill lane.

Still unknown: current provider shares, legal GPU title, commitments/utilization, successful-job cost and attributable subscription/API economics. Primary pages were read October 4; the direct pricing archive returned HTTP 403, while web retrieval was readable. That blocked body is not a verified price capture. See the manifest and index.
