RTX 5090 node procurement#
Status: Reference Last verified: 2026-09-26 Canonical for: how the RTX 5090 nodes were and should be bought in Malaysia: channels, package pricing, price gates and invoice rules
What each node contains, and why, is in the node decision record. This page covers how the parts were bought and how to buy the next node. Prices are dated; none is a purchase assumption until re-quoted in writing. PSU prices and the PSU buying rule are in the PSU decision; NAS drive prices in the NFS decision.
What was bought#
| Node | Seller | Date | Total | How it was priced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PC1 | IdealTech, invoice J0926118 | 2026-09-21 | RM36,748 | RM29,999 promotional package plus list-price upgrades, including a second 9100 Pro 2 TB |
| PC2 | IdealTech, invoice J0926134 | 2026-09-23 | RM34,999 | RM30,999 package (raised RM1,000 on 2026-09-22) plus upgrades; one 9100 Pro |
| PC3 | C-Zone (czone.my), deposit 2026-09-24, final quote dated 2026-09-25 | 2026-09-24/25 | RM43,324 | C-Zone's Tuesday quotation, locked by deposit. For IdealTech's price, C-Zone's quote covered the same build plus a whole extra 9100 Pro 2 TB. Final spec adds the 128 GB RAM upgrade (RM9,899) |
Purchase timeline (week of 2026-09-21)#
| Day | What happened |
|---|---|
| Mon 21 Sep | PC1 bought from IdealTech on the RM29,999 package |
| Tue 22 Sep | IdealTech's package rose RM1,000 to RM30,999. C-Zone's quotation was cheaper for the same build: IdealTech's price would buy the node plus a whole extra 9100 Pro 2 TB (RM2,399 at C-Zone) |
| Wed 23 Sep | PC2 bought from IdealTech at the higher package price |
| Thu 24 Sep | IdealTech's package rose a further RM2,000. A deposit at C-Zone for PC3 locked in its Tuesday quotation |
| Fri 25 Sep | PC3 spec confirmed with C-Zone: RAM upgraded to 128 GB, PSU kept as the Vertex PX-1200 (same as PC1/PC2) |
The lesson is how fast package prices moved: RM3,000 in three days. A deposit that locks a written quotation protects against the next rise; ask for one as soon as a quote is acceptable.
Line items: ordered configuration and PC3. Fleet total RM115,071. PC2 still needs its 9100 Pro 1 TB OS drive (RM1,199 at czone.my on 2026-09-25; RM1,399 on IdealTech's 2026-09-22 list).
Why the RTX 5090 is bought as a system#
Malaysian retailers were selling the RTX 5090 only inside complete systems. That is channel policy, not a product or legal requirement: scarce allocation, dealer-margin protection and warranty or fraud exposure all produce it, and at least one authorised retailer listed the card alone. The goal was therefore never the cheapest standalone GPU but the best useful node from a mandatory bundle, without paying for parts that add no capacity or latency benefit. A 16 GB RTX 5080, sold without a bundle, is not a substitute.
How IdealTech's package pricing works#
IdealTech sold a promotional package and charged each upgrade at the difference between the two parts' prices on its 2026-09-22 list; like-for-like swaps were free. The package was:
- Ryzen 7 9850X3D, MSI PRO X870E-S EVO WiFi, G.Skill 64 GB DDR5-6000, Kioxia Exceria Basic 1 TB (Gen4 QLC), Antec GSK1000, Lian Li HydroShift 360 and O11 Vision, and the RTX 5090 (Palit or Zotac on the later package; PC1's was a GIGABYTE).
- Price: RM29,999, raised to RM30,999 on 2026-09-22 and by a further RM2,000 on 2026-09-24.
The discount sits in the base. Reconstructed from the same list, the base parts were worth about RM35.2k, so the RM30,999 package carried roughly RM4k or more of discount. Upgrades were then charged at ordinary retail differences:
| Upgrade | List prices | Charged |
|---|---|---|
| 9850X3D → Ryzen 9 9950X | RM2,299 → RM2,999 | RM700 |
| PRO X870E-S EVO → MAG X870E Tomahawk Max | RM1,249 → RM1,699 | RM450 |
| Kioxia 1 TB → Samsung 9100 Pro 2 TB | RM899 → RM2,849 | RM1,950 |
| Antec GSK1000 → Seasonic Vertex PX-1200 | RM799 → RM1,700 | RM900 |
| Second Samsung 9100 Pro 2 TB | RM2,849 list | RM2,749 |
| G.Skill → T-Create Expert 2×32 GB; HydroShift → Arctic LF III Pro 360; O11 Vision → North XL | same prices | free |
So entering through the package pays even when most base parts are replaced. Holding the other list values constant, the RM30,999 package valued the GPU at roughly RM18.8k; after the 2026-09-24 rise, roughly RM20.8k. A standalone 5090 only saves money if it comes in below that implied figure, or if savings elsewhere cover the lost discount. For comparison, the pre-order standalone build was about RM41,482 without an OS drive, against RM38,647 through the package.
PC3 went to C-Zone on price. Even before Thursday's rise, C-Zone's quotation undercut IdealTech by about the price of a 9100 Pro 2 TB for the same build, and the deposit locked it before IdealTech's package went up another RM2,000. So a retailer selling at list prices can beat the package; the package discount is not guaranteed to win. For a fourth node, quote both routes. (IdealTech also could not swap in the Corsair HX1200i that was briefly preferred on 2026-09-24; that no longer matters, since the Vertex is the fleet standard.)
Channels#
RTX 5090#
Sun Cycle distributes Palit and Zotac, runs the local warranty portal, and publishes SRPs. Its list on 2026-09-22:
| GPU | SKU | SRP |
|---|---|---|
| Palit RTX 5090 GameRock | NE75090019R5-GB2020G |
RM20,499 |
| Palit RTX 5090 GameRock OC | RM20,899 | |
| Zotac RTX 5090 Solid OC | ZT-B50900J-10P |
RM22,799 |
| Zotac RTX 5090 Solid OC White | RM23,299 |
SRPs are not dealer costs or offers. Sales contact: +60 10-392 7393; ask for a live cash quote, quantity,
exact SKU, any attachment requirement and the warranty path. PC3's Zotac Solid OC came from czone.my at
exactly the RM22,799 SRP. Dotatech, on
Zotac's Malaysian where-to-buy list, advertised
the Solid OC "from RM20,799" on 2026-09-22, with a conflicting higher price on the product page; get a
written GPU-only quote rather than trusting either.
Brand made no measurable performance difference in the benchmarks; require a default power limit of at least 575 W and confirm the card fits the North XL.
Samsung 9100 Pro SSDs#
| Source | Date | 9100 Pro 2 TB | 9100 Pro 1 TB |
|---|---|---|---|
| M-Link dealer list | 2026-03-17 | RM1,630 | |
| M-Link dealer list (limited stock) | 2026-08-17 | RM2,592 | |
| IdealTech list | 2026-09-22 | RM2,849 (package add-on RM2,749) | RM1,399 |
| czone.my quote | 2026-09-25 | RM2,399 | RM1,199 |
The 2 TB drive rose about 60% between March and August; use live quotes only. The part number is
MZ-VAP2T0BW. Samsung Malaysia warranty service is carry-in to the point of purchase, so the invoice and an
authorised local channel matter.
Buying from distributors#
Distributor prices are not normally public one-unit consumer prices. Distributors usually want a reseller, system-integrator or corporate account, company documents, minimum orders or recurring volume, and avoid undercutting the dealers they supply. Approach them truthfully as a company deploying its own AI infrastructure, offering cash payment and expected repeat purchases, and ask for a corporate account or an introduction to their lowest-margin authorised dealer. Do not present the company as a retailer.
Price gates for the next node#
- Compare landed totals. Tax, delivery, warranty handling and assembly included; not web headlines, and never an expired or historical price.
- Package versus independent: quote the whole system both ways. The package's implied GPU value (about RM20.8k after the 2026-09-24 rise) is a useful yardstick, but PC3 showed an independent retailer can beat the package for the same build by the price of a 9100 Pro 2 TB. Compare complete written quotes, not the GPU line alone.
- Split SSD purchases only for real savings. Against IdealTech's RM2,749 add-on, a split drive order pays at RM2,299 or less per drive all-in; judge the modest saving between RM2,300 and RM2,799; at RM2,800 or more, keep it on the system invoice.
- PSU. Vertex PX-1200; the HX1200i only if the Vertex is unavailable or more than about RM500 dearer (PSU decision tree).
- The third-node gate is spent. A fourth node follows the strategy doc's gate: the nodes serving production for at least 30 days, with demand, spill and VRAM evidence.
Invoice and build instructions#
Every purchase, package or independent:
- Exact SKU on the invoice for the GPU, PSU and drives, with serial numbers, stock confirmation, DOA terms and the Malaysian warranty owner.
- Confirm the Tomahawk Max's shipped BIOS supports the 9950X (MAX boards ship with Ryzen 9000 support).
- 9100 Pro 2 TB model drive in M2_1, OS drive in M2_2, and M2_2 set to x4 in the BIOS (why).
- Record the PSU model and revision; use only its supplied direct 12V-2x6 cable, fully seated, never the GPU's adapter or another PSU's modular cables.
- Fit the M.2 heat spreaders; no OS or irreplaceable data on the model drive.
- Parts for the connector thermal watchdog (about RM40 per node).
History: pre-order IdealTech quotes (2026-09-22/23)#
Kept to explain the numbers in older docs. None of these configurations was ordered as quoted.
The original quote was a two-Samsung RAID 0 build with a 1 TB OS drive:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Package | RM30,999 |
| 9950X, Tomahawk Max, first 9100 Pro 2 TB, Vertex PX-1200 | +RM700, +RM450, +RM1,950, +RM900 |
| Second 9100 Pro 2 TB | +RM2,749 |
| Kioxia Exceria Basic 1 TB added back as the OS drive | +RM899 |
| Quoted three-drive system | RM38,647 |
| TP-Link TX401 10GbE adapter, deferred | +RM499 |
After the RAID experiment moved the plan to one model drive plus a 2 TB OS drive, the provisional scenarios were RM35,948–RM36,048 (base board), RM36,398–RM36,498 (Tomahawk) and RM39,147–RM39,247 (Tomahawk, two Samsungs). Splitting the Samsung purchase to M-Link at its August price would have saved at most RM414 before tax and freight, too little for split warranty handling. A cost-reduced build that kept the 9850X3D and the GSK1000 (RM36,947) was rejected for the CPU headroom and the 1200 W PSU margin.
